Legacy Football
Legacy Football is (9v9) a variation of the traditional 11v11 game, where teams are reduced to nine players each on the field at one time. It is primarily played in youth leagues, with U11 to U14 age groups being the most common 1. The game is designed to bridge the gap between flag and tackle football, providing a low impact, up-tempo, assignment and acumen focused development platform.
It's a great opportunity for tackle teams and for flag football players to take it to the next step. Offensive and defensive lineman can continue to develop. Flag football is a great start in the football world, but it's a hard transition playing flag football at the age of 14 to playing high school tackle football. Legacy football focus on football fundamentals that frankly H.S. coaches have limited time on offering.
How does it work.
We run two games per hour. Each team will play in one direction offensively (40-yard line to the endzone.). This is 9v9 and teams must have a minimum of 9 players, we recommend a minimum of 11 players to cover player absents. Teams get an hour practice time prior to game time. Keep in mind, we may be on limited practice space. We slot an hour game time even though the game is technically 48 minutes. We do this to cover for any issues that may arise. The regular season is 5 weeks, week 6 will be playoff games and the 7th week is championship day. We must have a minimum of 4 teams at a particular grade level. For example, 4 teams of a mixture of 5th and 6th graders and or a 4 teams of 7th and 8th graders.
